As of SQL Server 2012, Microsoft changed the licensing model for Processor Site Licenses (PSLs) to a core-based model. For SQL Server 2008 R2 and earlier, which used the PSL model, licenses were based on the number of available physical processors on the server. For SQL Server 2012 and later, core-based licensing is based on the number of available physical cores on the server. SOLIDWORKS Enterprise PDM customers who purchased PSL licenses and want to upgrade to SQL Server 2014 must ensure they have the proper number of core licenses. In general, one PSL license translates into four core licenses.
