Microsoft Windows 7 SP1, 64-bit Operating System

SOLIDWORKS 2020 SP5 is the last release to support the Windows® 7 Operating System. SOLIDWORKS 2021 products will not install on Windows 7.

Microsoft Windows 7 mainstream support ended January 13, 2015. By exception, SOLIDWORKS 2018-2020 support is extending into Microsoft’s Extended Support period, which ends on January 14, 2020.

Installation

Antivirus Software

Some antivirus software prevents proper installation of SOLIDWORKS. For additional information, see Antivirus.

Functionality

OBJ Files

You can open .obj files in eDrawings. Limited functionality is available with these files.

Service Pack 5.0

Printing

When you print a drawing with Entire sheet selected, the printout shows accurate results.

Service Pack 4.0

There are no service pack 4.0 specific items at this time.

Service Pack 3.0

Markups

Fixed a problem with markup replies disappearing.

Opening Files

Fixed a problem on Microsoft Windows® 10, where a large amount of system memory was used when opening files that contained many images.

You can open Autodesk® AutoCAD 2018 files in eDrawings.

Service Pack 2.0

STEP Files

If you try to import STEP files in the eDrawings free version, you may get an “Error reading file” message. To fix this issue, install Visual C++ Redistributable Package 2013 at Microsoft.com.

Service Pack 1.0

3D Views

If you use SOLIDWORKS files (.sldprt, .sldasm) with 3D Views, you must resave them in SOLIDWORKS 2018 Service Pack 1 for the 3D Views pane to show only the 3D Views for the active configuration on last save.
