Installing and Managing Multiple Computers

The SolidWorks Installation Manager provides the following tools to install and manage multiple SolidWorks computers.

SolidWorks Administrative Images

If you are installing SolidWorks on multiple computers, you can create an administrative image and then deploy the application to other computers.

Click here to view other considerations of using administrative images.

To create an administrative image:

  1. Initiate the SolidWorks installation and provide your serial number.

  2. Click Administrative Image and Server products.

  3. Select Create an administrative image on a server.

  4. Click Next.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

To upgrade clients that installed SolidWorks products using an administrative image, you must create an adminstrative image of the new version. To perform the upgrade, you can either run the <admin_dir>\StartSWInstall.hta file on the client machine or remap the original UNC share path to the new administrative image folder. If you remap the share path, clients are updated automatically when they run SolidWorks. For details, see Upgrading Clients from Administrative Images.

PDMWorks Workgroup Server

The PDMWorks Workgroup application is project data management software that runs inside the SolidWorks environment or as a standalone application inside SolidWorks Explorer. PDMWorks Workgroup controls projects with procedures for check out, check in, revision control, and other administration tasks. Installing the PDMWorks Workgroup Server creates a PDMWorks Workgroup vault, which is the database that stores the managed SolidWorks projects.

To install a PDMWorks Workgroup Server:

  1. Initiate the SolidWorks installation and provide your serial number.

  2. Click Administrative Image and Server products.

  3. Select Install PDMWorks Workgroup Server software (PDMWorks Workgroup Vault) on this computer.

  4. Click Next.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions, selecting Vault as the Setup Type.

SolidNetWork License Server (SNL)

The SolidNetWork License Server allows the number of users to exceed the number of licenses by floating the use of licenses. When a client license is not in use, it is available for another SolidWorks user.

You can also use the SNL Manager to distribute licenses for SolidWorks core add-in products such as COSMOSMotion, FeatureWorks, and so forth.

To install a SolidNetWork License Server:

  1. Initiate the SolidWorks installation and provide your serial number.

  2. Click Administrative Image and Server products.

  3. Select Install SolidNetWork License Server (distributed licensing) on this computer.

  4. Click Next.

  5. Follow the instructions in License Server Installation.
