Products to Install or Modify

Select products to install, modify, or remove. The SolidWorks product to be installed or modified is identified and its components are listed:

For example, if this is a new installation, the default for components you have purchased is New Installation, but you can select to not install the component. If you are upgrading, the default is Upgrade but you can select to not upgrade or, in some cases, to remove the component.

The actions performed by the Installation Manager are controlled by a set of product coexistence rules.

The Installation Manager selects all product components to which you are entitled, unless you specify otherwise. To reduce your installation or download time and disk space requirements, expand the product components and specify Do not install or Do not upgrade for those components you do not need.

If the Installation Manager was unable to verify the products to which you are entitled, you can select the SolidWorks package (such as SolidWorks Professional or SolidWorks Premium) to install or modify. The Installation Manager lists all SolidWorks products on your installation media that are compatible with the package you select. Use the list box to manually select the products you purchased or are entitled to evaluate.

SolidWorks Search

SolidWorks Search provides a powerful full text search of SolidWorks documents, the PDMWorks Workgroup vault, and 3D ContentCentral. Search displays a preview and the file location and name.

After the installation, SolidWorks Search indexes SolidWorks documents for faster searches. Only SolidWorks files are indexed by default.

You cannot install SolidWorks Search unless you also are installing SolidWorks.

Installing SolidWorks Search automatically installs Windows Desktop Search if it is not already installed on your computer.

Language support

Expand the SolidWorks product and the Languages component to see the languages you can install.

Installation location

The location in which new product installations will be placed is shown at the bottom of the product list. You can modify the location by browsing to a different folder. The Installation Manager creates a new subfolder for each new installation, so do not be concerned if you choose a folder that contains an existing installation.

This location is the parent directory for new installations. If you are modifying an existing installation or upgrading within a major SolidWorks release, the existing installed location for this product does not change.

When upgrading a previous major release, the product’s existing installed location might not change depending on whether the product supports major upgrades.

Space needed

The Installation Manager reports either total installation size or total download size at the bottom of the page.

All files needed for installation are included in the total download size. If some files already were downloaded into the current download folder, they will not be downloaded again. As a result, your actual download size might be smaller than the total download size shown, or you might not need to download any files.

If downloads are required and you are downloading to the same drive, the actual disk space requirements could be significantly greater than the installation size that appears.

To reduce download or installation time for future updates and patches, do not delete the downloaded files after installation. Subsequent updates and patches typically require access to the last full installation file set.
