PDMWorks Workgroup Upgrades

To upgrade the PDMWorks Workgroup vault, obtain upgrades for the PDMWorks Workgroup server by:

Using the SolidWorks Installation Manager to check for updates
Receiving a new DVD from SolidWorks
Manually downloading upgrade files to a folder

You can install only one version of PDMWorks Workgroup Server on a computer.

Regardless of the method you use to upgrade the vault, you should perform the following steps. For details, see the PDMWorks Workgroup and SolidWorks Explorer online help:

Ask all users to log out of the vault and then lock it.
Backup the vault data.
Use Add/Remove programs to remove the current version of PDMWorks Workgroup Server.
Install the new version of PDMWorks Workgroup Server.
Use the SolidWorks Task Scheduler to update the PDMWorks Workgroup files in the vault.
Unlock the vault and notify users that they can return to using it.

To update the vault server by checking for updates:

In Windows, click Start, All Programs, SolidWorks Installation Manager, Check for Updates.
On the Newer Versions Available dialog box, select Download and install a new version, select the version to install, and click Next.

The new version of the Installation Manager downloads and runs.

On the Welcome screen, enter your serial number or use the serial number detected by the Installation Manager.
Under Installation Type, click:

Administrative Image and Server Products
Create an administrative image on a server
Install PDMWorks Workgroup Server software (PDMWorks Workgroup vault) on this computer

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

To update the vault server from a new DVD:

Updating from a new DVD uses the same process as installing a new PDMWorks Workgroup Server.

To update the vault server from a manually downloaded file:

Double-click the downloaded file, pdmwserver.exe.
Follow the on-screen instructions until you get to the Upgrade Installation dialog box. The installer detects a previous installation and prepares to upgrade.
Click Next to upgrade, then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

Client Upgrades

Clients are prompted to update the first time they log in after the vault is updated. No service pack is required for client updates. See Update Clients in the PDMWorks Workgroup online Help.
