Modifying an Installation

You can modify an installation to install products that have not been installed or to remove products. For example, if you have the basic SolidWorks software and have purchased SolidWorks Professional or SolidWorks Premium, enter the new serial number to modify the installation.

If you installed SolidWorks and purchased an add-in at a later time, you can modify the installation to include the new add-in. You must install the add-in on each individual machine.

Workgroup PDM is not installed if you are modifying your original SolidWorks package to include SolidWorks Professional or SolidWorks Premium.

To modify an installation:

1. Make sure no SolidWorks sessions are active.

2. In Windows, open the Control Panel and run Add or Remove Programs.

3. In the dialog box, select SolidWorks <version>.

4. Click Change.

5. On the Welcome to the SolidWorks <version> Installation Manager screen, click Next.

6. On the Installation Type screen, select one of the following:

• Modify the existing individual installation (on this computer).  Lets you install products that have not been installed.

• Administrative Image and Server products. Selecting this installation type provides these options:

  Create or update an Administrative Image

  If you create a new image, without using the previous administrative image files, the download will be larger than if you updated an existing image. Updating an administrative image creates a copy of the image and then updates that copy, which requires a smaller download. The original administrative image is not modified. Click Browse to specify the location of the administrative image to update. Note: If you are updating an administrative image, clients that installed from the original image cannot access the new image unless you change the share implementation, as described under Upgrading Clients from Administrative Images.

  Install SolidWorks Workgroup PDM Server Install SolidNetWork License Server

  If you have not installed the SolidWorks Workgroup PDM Server or SolidNetWork License Server, you can install them now.

• Download files but do not install. Lets you download installation files for selected SolidWorks products without installing the products. You can use these files to install SolidWorks products on multiple computers at a later time.

7. Click Next.

8. Select the products to install or remove, and then click Next.
   
   When modifying an installation, no products are installed or removed by default, even if you specify a new serial number. You must change the installation action of each product or feature. To see the available features for each product, click + next to that product and then click the icon next to the product or feature to change the installation actions.

9. On the Ready to Install screen, click Install Now.
   
   If you are downloading files, the screen is titled  Ready to Download. Click Download Now.

10. On the Installation is Complete screen, click Finish.
