This one is not unique to AutoCAD 2011—it’s appeared in releases back to AutoCAD 2008. When you try to start AutoCAD, it shuts down and (sometimes) displays the following message:
This version of AutoCAD was not installed properly and some features may not run correctly. You should reinstall AutoCAD immediately to make sure all features are working properly. Do you wish to continue anyway?
In the past, Autodesk has attributed this problem to some corruption in the Microsoft .NET Framework. However, a new culprit has recently emerged: a stray space in a Registry entry. The renegade space is found in the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.png key. To view the Registry entries, select Run from the Start menu and type Regedit.

Navigate to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.png key. Click on the .png key in the left window, then right-click on Content Type in the right window. Select Modify from the shortcut menu that appears. The Edit String dialog box will display. Look for a leading space at the start of the value in the Value data window.

Removing the leading space may solve the crash problem. Note, however, that Autodesk does not know where the space is coming from or whether removing it will cause problems with other programs. So far, users who have deleted the space haven’t reported any subsequent problems.
If you don’t find a space in this Registry key, or if deleting the space does no good, it’s back to the old Microsoft .NET Framework corruption cure. Select Settings, then Control Panel, from the Windows Start menu. Double-click on Add or Remove Programs, or Programs and Features (depending on your version of Windows).

Uninstall all versions of .NET Framework, beginning with the most recent. Then reinstall only the version that is required by your version of AutoCAD, per the table below. If you are using an AutoCAD-based product, consult your product documentation for the correct version.
