SolidWorks Enterprise PDM 2011 Release Notes

This document provides general information about the SolidWorks Enterprise PDM 2011 SP05.  For information about new features, see What's New for Enterprise PDM 2011.  

System Requirements

SolidWorks Enterprise PDM 2011 supports SolidWorks 2011 and two previous versions. The combination of a newer version of SolidWorks and an older version of Enterprise PDM is not supported.

Although you can use SolidWorks Enterprise PDM 2011 with SolidWorks 2009 and SolidWorks 2010, be aware that some functionality requires the use of SolidWorks 2011.

To ensure successful installation and optimum performance, verify that your system complies with the requirements specified in www.solidworks.com/sw/support/pdmsystemrequirements.html.

Operating System Support

The 32 and 64 bit versions of Microsoft XP Professional SP03, Microsoft VistaBusiness and Enterprise, and Microsoft Windows 7 are fully supported for Enterprise PDM client installations.

For Enterprise PDM server components, Windows Server 2008 is recommended.

SolidWorks Enterprise PDM 2011 supports the following SQL Server versions:

Upgrading from Pre-Release Software

If you participated in the SolidWorks Enterprise PDM 2011 Beta or Pre-Release 1 tests, you should uninstall the client and server components and remove the vault. It is not possible to upgrade the Beta or Pre-Release 1 installation or vaults to the release software.

Enhancements

File Version Upgrade Tool

The File Version Upgrade tool has been enhanced in SolidWorks Enterprise PDM 2011 to allow you to overwrite versions and upgrade older versions. For more detailed information, see the File Version Upgrade Tool Help.

Technical Alerts (Updated)

SolidWorks 2012 and Enterprise PDM 2012 Last Releases to Support Windows XP

Following Microsoft's retirement of the Windows XP operating system in April of 2009, SolidWorks 2013 and SolidWorks Enterprise PDM 2013 will not install on Windows XP. See www.solidworks.com/sw/support/pdmsystemrequirements.html for more information.

Two documents have sections that are only in English for some languages:

Chapter 9, Upgrading  SolidWorks Files, appears in English for these languages:

Czech, traditional Chinese, Korean, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian

The last section of the File Explorer help, which describes the Enterprise PDM Web Client, appears in English for these languages:

Czech, German, French, Polish, simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, Korean, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian

Access to Compiled Help Files

After specific XP security updates are applied, SolidWorks compiled help files (.chm) cannot be accessed over a network (although they can be accessed from a disk or local installation). The Microsoft Knowledge Base article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896054/ includes a resolution to this problem.

Service Pack 3.1

SolidWorks Enterprise PDM 2011 SP03 has been superseded by SP03.1. For more information refer to Knowledge Base Solution S-054758.
