Microsoft Windows 7 SP1, 64-Bit Operating System

SOLIDWORKS PDM 2020 SP5 is the last release to support the Windows® 7 Operating System. SOLIDWORKS PDM 2021 and later version products will not install on Windows 7.

Microsoft Windows 7 mainstream support ended January 13, 2015. By exception, SOLIDWORKS PDM 2018-2020 support is extending into Microsoft’s Extended Support period, which ends on January 14, 2020.

* A SOLIDWORKS PDM fix that is dependent on a Microsoft Windows 7 fix cannot be provided during the latter part of the SOLIDWORKS PDM Lifecycle.

Microsoft Excel 2013 and Word 2013

SOLIDWORKS PDM 2020 SP5 is the last release to support Microsoft® Excel 2013 and Word 2013.

Microsoft SQL Server 2014

SOLIDWORKS PDM 2021 SP5 is the last release to support SQL Server® 2014.

The information below is subject to change based on Microsoft’s support schedule.

Microsoft Windows Server 2016

SOLIDWORKS PDM 2023 SP5 is the last release to support Windows Server 2016.

SOLIDWORKS PDM 2024 products will not install on Windows Server 2016.

Microsoft Excel 2016 and Word 2016

SOLIDWORKS PDM 2023 SP5 is the last release to support Microsoft® Excel 2016 and Word 2016.

Microsoft Excel 2019 and Word 2019

SOLIDWORKS PDM 2023 SP5 is the last release to support Microsoft® Excel 2019 and Word 2019.

Microsoft SQL Server 2016

SOLIDWORKS PDM 2023 SP5 is the last release to support SQL Server 2016.

System Requirements

  • Install Microsoft ODBC driver 17.3 or later for SQL Server on the client and the servers.
  • To ensure successful installation and optimum performance, see System Requirements.
  • SOLIDWORKS PDM 2022 requires the SolidNetWork License (SNL) Manager 2022 to manage licenses.
  • SOLIDWORKS PDM 2021 and later require Cumulative Update 4 or higher when using SQL Server 2019.

Installation

DVD Distribution Media

Beginning with SOLIDWORKS 2021, customers who have requested DVD upgrade shipments will receive three DVDs.

Single Installation of SOLIDWORKS Manage Client

You can have only one SOLIDWORKS Manage client installation on a machine. Installing a SOLIDWORKS Manage 2021 client will remove earlier versions.

SQL Server Management Studio

The installation package of SOLIDWORKS PDM 2019 and later do not include the installation of SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). To download SSMS, see Download SQL Server Management Studio.

Modifying SOLIDWORKS PDM Server Installations

To modify an installation of SOLIDWORKS PDM Server and its components, use Programs and Features from the Windows Control Panel. You cannot modify the installation with SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager (SLDIM), even if that is what you used to install SOLIDWORKS PDM Server.

Functionality

Explode Tool

When viewing IGES files in eDrawings Web Viewer in SOLIDWORKS PDM Web2, the Explode tool only works correctly with IGES files containing BREP data.

Microsoft SQL Server 2019

Microsoft SQL Server® 2019 is supported beginning with SOLIDWORKS 2020 and SOLIDWORKS PDM 2020.

SOLIDWORKS PDM 2021 and later require Cumulative Update 4 or higher when using SQL Server 2019.

Compatibility with SOLIDWORKS PDM Products

Starting with SOLIDWORKS PDM 2017, the service pack for SOLIDWORKS PDM client can be different from the service pack for SOLIDWORKS PDM server as long as they are the same major version.

SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional 2022 supports SOLIDWORKS 2022, 2021, and 2020. SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard 2022 supports SOLIDWORKS 2022 only. The combination of a newer version of SOLIDWORKS and an older version of SOLIDWORKS PDM is not supported.
