Windows XP Service Pack 2 is supported in SolidWorks 2005 starting at Service Pack 0.1. As an enhanced security measure, this operating system includes the Windows Firewall. The firewall requires modifications to the following products, which use TCP/IP protocol for inbound and outbound communications:
PDMWorks. If you install PDMWorks on a Windows XP system with Service Pack 2, you must enable ports in the XP firewall. For details, refer to the PDMWorks Installation and Administration Guide.
SolidNetWork License. If you install SolidNetWork License (SNL) on Windows XP Service Pack 2, you must modify ports on the license server and modify the license file. Refer to the SolidNetWork License Installation and Administration Guide.
If you use additional Internet firewall software, you must add the two ports to your firewall exceptions list. Refer to the procedure "To modify ports on the license server" in section 6 of the SolidNetWork License Installation and Administration Guide.
If you install the SolidWorks software on a 64-bit computer with a dongle, you may receive two messages indicating that the software has not passed Windows Logo testing and that you should stop the installation. These error messages appear because the Aladdin HASP dongle driver is a Beta version for 64-bit computers. Proceed with the installation, and accept the default options in all dialog boxes. In the Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box, select No, not this time.
Users can share their models in the 3D ContentCentral User Library. On the Design Library tab of the Task Pane, right-click 3D ContentCentral and select Share a Model. Follow the directions on the screen to enter your profile information and upload your model.
The default color for Assembly, Edit Part has been changed from pink to blue.
Page 9-5 of the What's New book indicates that when you add a drawing sheet to an existing drawing, the Sheet Properties dialog box does not appear. The What's New book is incorrect; the Sheet Properties dialog box appears each time you add a sheet to a drawing.
You can generate a report that includes the number of sheets, views, and annotations in a drawing. The statistics include annotations from all sheets and drawing views, not just the current sheet. In a drawing document, click Tools, Drawing Statistics.
Drawing view PropertyManagers have a new section, Cosmetic Thread Display. You can select:
High quality. Displays precise line fonts and trimming in cosmetic threads.
Draft quality. Displays cosmetic threads with less detail.
CADKEY version 21 multibody part files (*.ckd) can now be imported into SolidWorks.
The SolidWorks software supports the import of Pro/Engineer Wildfire 1 and 2 geometry.
You can determine the current version of an administrative image by double-clicking showversion.bat located in the administrative image folder.
Page 12-7 of the What's New book provides a hyperlink to the SolidNetWork License (SNL) guide. This link is incorrect. The correct link is http://files.solidworks.com/Supportfiles/SNLAdminGuide/2005/English/netlicguide.htm.
A new field, Length, has been added under Density units in Document Properties - Units (accessed by clicking Tools, Options, Document Properties, Units). All mass properties (Density, Mass, Volume, and so on) and all custom properties defined using SolidWorks properties (SW-Mass, SW-Density, and so on) are now reported in the units specified under Density units.
Also, when you change units using Options in the Mass Properties dialog box, the new units apply only to the mass properties values reported in the dialog box. Previously, these units overrode the document unit settings not only for mass properties, but also for custom properties. This could cause unexpected changes in custom property values. For example, if you created a note that contained a link to a custom property that referenced SW-Mass, then the value in the note would change whenever you changed units in the Mass Properties dialog box.
If a document from a previous version of the SolidWorks software has units set using Options in Mass Properties, the software applies the override to Document Properties - Units, so that when a custom property looks to document properties units, it gets the same override it had in previous versions of the software.
Select Make base construction in the Offset Entities PropertyManager to change the original sketch entity to a construction line after you click OK.
If the sketch entity to trim intersects either of the bounding entities only once:
It trims the section outside the bounding entity.
It extends the section inside the bounding entity to the next entity.
You can apply Standard Mates for Distance and Angle and then animate the results.
You cannot animate the results when you apply Advanced Mates, select Limit, and select Distance or Angle.
SolidWorks Routing now includes harness flattening and detailing functionality.
In the cable/wire library, you can now specify a minimum bend radius for each cable and individual wire. In Routing Options, you can enable a minimum bend radius check, to report an error if the bend radius of an arc or spline in the route is less than the minimum specified in the library.
The Routing library folder has moved to the Design Library, at <install_dir>\data\design library\routing. The routing folder has sub-folders for piping, tubing and so on.
You can automatically generate orthogonal routes for pipes and rigid tubes using Auto Route. You can route through pre-placed hardware such as clips and grommets.
You now have the option to create a single multibody tube part for a route, instead of a separate part file for each tube segment.
SolidWorks 2005 supports the Windows XP Service Pack 2 operating system. See Windows XP Service Pack 2 under General Information for details.
The SolidWorks Office Premium package is now available. See www.solidworks.com/pages/products/swofficepro/SWOfficePremium.html. Contact your VAR for upgrade information.
An asterisk (*) is displayed beside the document name in the title bar if the document has changed since it was last saved.
The option Notify if SNL could not be obtained for eDrawings Save has been removed from Tools, Options, System Options, General. eDrawings now uses the same SNL license as other SolidWorks Office Professional products and the situation that required the option no longer occurs.
The What's New book describes creating voice comments in SolidWorks documents. Only text comments are available.
In drawing views with broken-out sections, you can exclude fasteners from being sectioned.
A new option, Restrict top level only BOMs to one configuration, is available in Tools, Options, Document Properties, Tables. When selected, BOMs designated as Top level only in the Bill of Materials PropertyManager are restricted to only one configuration. This way, the label for the quantity column does not change if you change the configuration in the BOM.
The pointer changes when you hover over text in a table, except in design tables and Excel-based bills of materials.
You can hide columns in bills of materials with the Bill of Materials Properties dialog box.
Two new options have been added to the Bill of Materials PropertyManager, under Part Configuration Grouping:
Display configurations of the same part as separate items. If a component has multiple configurations, each configuration is listed in the BOM.
Display all configurations of the same part as one item. If a component has multiple configurations, the component is listed in only one row in the BOM.
The option Display as one item configurations with the same name has been renamed to Display configurations with the same name as one item.
You can now export files to ACIS version R14.
In addition to English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese, the DWGeditor is now available in French, Italian, German, and Traditional Chinese.
The SolidWorks software supports the import of Pro/Engineer Wildfire 1 and 2 features in addition to geometry.
If you add parts to use as forming tools to any folder other than forming tools, you must designate the new folder as a Forming Tools folder. Right-click the new folder and select Forming Tools Folder. Any parts added to this folder are treated by the SolidWorks software as forming tools.
With the new Replace Wires button in the Edit Wires PropertyManager, you can now maintain connectivity data when you replace one wire or cable with another.
You can now use data from the 3D component and cable libraries in the 2D harnessing and detailing functionality. Fields have been added to the component library for pin identification numbers, terminal part numbers, and terminal size.
In Excel files used to import cable library data, the decimal delimiter must be a decimal point (for example 12.5), not a comma (for example 12,5).
To update all associated keys to reflect the model's current position, you can right click a key point along the timeline and select the new item Replace Key.
See General Information for news about Windows 2000 support.
Grid lines in drawings are printed no closer than 5 mm to each other, as measured on the paper.
Press Shift to apply minimum or maximum dimensions within zones of 90 degrees. If you hover the pointer over an arc while pressing Shift, the pointer displays a minimum/maximum icon.
The ability to specify custom units for section properties has been restored. Click Options in the Section Properties dialog box and select Use custom settings. The new units apply only to the properties reported in the dialog box. They do not update the default units specified in Tools, Options, Document Properties, Units, under Mass/Section property units.
An option has been added to the Pro/Engineer Part Converter, Import geometry from hidden sections.
Gray scale has been added to the options for Image Type.
Connector Blocks. Add special notes to a block to control the attachment point and orientation of the block with respect to the harness. See Harnessing Connector Block Generation in the SolidWorks Routing Help for more information.
Harness Bill of Materials. Attaches the top of the Harness Bill of Materials to the anchor point. Also, inserts a balloon for each part and covering and includes the item number in the Harness Bill of Materials.
Harness Identification Text. Display a note, typically the harness part number, on the harness drawing.
Split Segment. Replace a segment with two shorter segments. The sum of the lengths of the new segments equals the length of the initial segment.
New topics have been added to the Vertical Market Design Tools section of the online help. These topics give an overview of 2D drafting in the SolidWorks software.
A gallery of example renderings, plus new topics on Rendering Overview, Performance, and Spherical Scenes, have been added to the PhotoWorks online help.
New tutorials for Advanced Drawings, SolidWorks Animator, and Mold Design have replaced the previous tutorials.
An Engineering Search Engine, using the GlobalSpec
An option, Sharpen zoomed state, has been added to the OLE Object Property dialog box. If an object becomes blurred when you zoom in, select this option to sharpen the image on screen. Print quality is not affected.
To create a minimum or maximum dimension between arcs, press Shift
to apply the dimension within zones of 90
You can now delete a material from a custom materials library. Select the material in the Materials Editor PropertyManager and press Delete.
You can drag a sub-assembly from the graphics area of its open window into an assembly window. Hold down Shift to drag the sub-assembly.
The mechanism for including drawings during check-in has changed. In Client Options, the option to include drawings during Check in is now cleared by default. The Check In Document dialog box now contains the option to Find and include associated Drawings. If you choose to include drawings, you can then choose to look in the SolidWorks search path or specify a folder. PDMWorks reports the number of drawings located.
Always resolve sub-assemblies has been added for assemblies in Tools, Options, System Options, Performance. The sub-assemblies are resolved, but the part components in the sub-assemblies are lightweight.
If you install the SolidWorks software on a 64-bit computer with a dongle, see Windows XP with 64-bit Computers and Dongles in the General Information section.
For spheres, you can now use the Measure tool to measure radius, diameter, and center-to-center distance.
The DrawCompare tool now allows comparison of detached drawings to their associated fully-loaded drawings. When you compare a detached drawing, DrawCompare compares a bitmap of the detached drawing to a bitmap of the same drawing with the models fully loaded.
SolidWorks supports Windows XP Professional x64 Edition (64-bit) for SolidWorks 2005 SP4.0 and later. For the latest information on system requirements, see http://www.solidworks.com/pages/services/SystemRequirements.html
If you apply an early visibility service pack, you can select Do not remove the existing installation of SolidWorks. When selected, the early visibility version is installed as a separate installation from your current SolidWorks software. You will have two SolidWorks software installations; the original version is not overwritten. Early visibility versions are indicated by an "ev" in the service pack name (for example, sw2005-3.0-4.0ev-i.msp).
Both Ctrl+C and Ctrl+X copy files and folders within the SolidWorks File Explorer. Previously, both actions cut items.
When you right-click a drawing view and select Properties, you can select Show Envelope. This displays assembly envelope components in the drawing view.
A new option, Leader justification snapping, is available in Tools, Options, Document Properties, Notes. This option allows the leader in a balloon to snap to one side of the balloon.
Documents in the JIS standard now have Groove Angle and Root Opening options for weld symbols.
