Online licensing is not available in SOLIDWORKS 2022 products. Even if online licensing is enabled, you cannot use the online licensing login to install or use SOLIDWORKS 2022 products. Before running SOLIDWORKS 2022 products, change the activation type to machine activation in the SOLIDWORKS Admin Portal.

For optimum graphics performance and stability, see Hardware Certification.
To ensure successful installation and optimum performance, see SOLIDWORKS and SW PDM System Requirements.
For SOLIDWORKS Visualize to work properly with NVIDIA Iray GPU support, a NVIDIA graphics card based on at least the Maxwell microarchitecture with a minimum NVIDIA driver version 451.48 for CUDA® 11.0 possible is required.
To ensure successful installation and optimum performance, see Prerequisites and System Requirements.
For a comparison of render performance across different NVIDIA graphics cards, see SOLIDWORKS Visualize Benchmarks.
Beginning with SOLIDWORKS 2020, DVD distribution media is provided only on request. Contact your Reseller for more information.
Some antivirus software prevents proper installation of SOLIDWORKS. For more information, see Antivirus Products.
To modify an installation of SOLIDWORKS PDM Server and its components, use Programs and Features from the Windows Control Panel. You cannot modify the installation with SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager (SLDIM), even if that is what you used to install SOLIDWORKS PDM Server.
Starting with SOLIDWORKS 2022, commercial and educational customers who have purchased perpetual licenses of SOLIDWORKS products will be required to reactivate their licenses once a year. The licenses never expire but need to be reactivated periodically regardless of whether or not customers remain on subscription. Term licenses and student licenses are not affected.
Reactivation applies to SOLIDWORKS 2022 stand-alone products but not to earlier versions.
Reactivation applies to SolidNetWork License products after an organization has updated to the 2022 License Manager. Even if the installed products are from an earlier release, the 2022 licenses on the server will require reactivation once a year.
Some fonts that shipped in prior versions of Windows have moved into optional features in Windows 10. When upgrading to Windows 10, these fonts might not be installed on your system. If you find that a SOLIDWORKS document uses a font that is no longer installed on your computer, refer to the Microsoft Knowledge base article 3083806.
When you save a drawing document as a PDF file, and the drawing contains non-English (non-ASCII) characters, the appropriate fonts must be available to render the characters. If the specified font is not installed on your computer or does not support Unicode character glyphs, then the Arial Unicode MS font is used. If the Arial Unicode MS font is also missing, then the characters fail to render. The Arial Unicode MS font is not provided with Microsoft® Office® 2016 software. (See Windows 10 Fonts Missing, above.) Workaround: To install the Arial Unicode MS font, install both Microsoft® Office Professional Plus 2013 (minimal installation with only International Options enabled) and Microsoft® Office (2016 or later).
Recommendation: Use the 64-bit version of Microsoft Office. If you are embedding Microsoft Office 32-bit OLE objects in SOLIDWORKS documents, refer to the Microsoft Knowledge base article 983396 to fix OLE objects displaying as an icon.
SOLIDWORKS does not support GLTF/GLB files and you cannot export these files from SOLIDWORKS. You can use SOLIDWORKS Visualize to export to GLTF/GLB.
Microsoft SQL Server 2019 is supported beginning with SOLIDWORKS 2020 and SOLIDWORKS PDM 2020.
SOLIDWORKS PDM 2021 and higher require Cumulative update 4 or later when using SQL Server 2019.
The Dissolve Feature command is consolidated into the Break Link command. The command name no longer changes because of the file type of the 3D Interconnect link.
Beginning in SOLIDWORKS 2021, an updated algorithm calculates the surface area and volume of a model. The new method is faster and, in many cases, more accurate. This might cause the value to change, even if the same value has been reproducible across multiple releases. The change is more noticeable if you select the Lower (faster) accuracy level in the Mass/Section Property Options dialog box. Select the Higher (slower) accuracy level to yield values closer to the nominal value.
SOLIDWORKS 2007 and earlier allowed unsupported surface fill technology. The software allowed faces that were not G2 continuous at the boundary. This issue was rectified in SOLIDWORKS 2008 and later versions. If you import SOLIDWORKS 2007 and earlier models with surface fill and related features, the software prompts you to update the data if it detects a legacy feature.
Beginning with SOLIDWORKS 2021, the SOLIDWORKS Forum add-in is no longer included. You can access the SOLIDWORKS Community from here.
SOLIDWORKS Visualize now facilitates the choice of the appropriate Part grouping mode when importing SOLIDWORKS parts and assemblies, the tooltips, order, and naming of the available options are improved. The behavior has not changed.
The SOLIDWORKS 2022 login has changed from SOLIDWORKS ID to 3DEXPERIENCE ID. In most cases, you can use your current username and password or you can create a new 3DEXPERIENCE ID. With the 3DEXPERIENCE ID login, you can synchronize your SOLIDWORKS settings from one machine to another.
If you used a multibody part as an input to create cavity features in SOLIDWORKS 2021 or earlier, downstream features might fail in SOLIDWORKS 2022 or later because the face IDs of the output bodies might change. To resolve failed features, recreate them by replacing the missing references.
When you run SOLIDWORKS in a foreign language environment, you can create the Description property name in English for weldment cut lists. Click Use English Description property name in Weldment Cut list.
. Under Cut list options, selectYou can select this option only when the part does not have any weldment cut list. If a part has a weldment cut list with Description property name in English, newly created cut list will have Description property name in English. If the part has all weldment cut lists with non-English Description property names, newly created cut list will have Description property name in non-English.
In the Design with SOLIDWORKS app, there is a tighter integration with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. From the SOLIDWORKS interface, you can open and insert files from your local machine or the platform without opening MySession. The Open from 3DEXPERIENCE and Open from This PC buttons make it easier to switch between interacting with your local machine or the platform. Similarly, the Save to 3DEXPERIENCE and Save to This PC buttons let you pick the location for saving files.
In SOLIDWORKS 2022 SP0 What's New, the topic, Custom Properties Architecture, mentions an incorrect API method. The correct API method is IModelDocExtension::UpgradeLegacyCustomProperties.
The SOLIDWORKS Installation and Administration Guide inaccurately lists Microsoft SQL Server database versions for SOLIDWORKS PDM and support for Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD client add-ins. For a list of the supported versions and client-add-ins, see the SOLIDWORKS PDM Installation Guide and system requirements.
You cannot request new materials and download updated materials for Sustainability. However, you can still create a custom material and assign a sustainability material to the custom material.
The topics about Updating the Materials Database and Requesting Materials remain in the documentation.
When you save Sustainability output as a GaBi file, the output file format has changed from .xml to .txt. The topics for Sustainability Task Pane – Parts and Sustainability Task Pane – Assemblies do not reflect this change.
The 3DEXPERIENCE Exchange add-in lets SOLIDWORKS users safely work with a package of content from a 3DEXPERIENCE source, such as SOLIDWORKS Connected or the Design with SOLIDWORKS app. SOLIDWORKS users can seamlessly open the package, modify files, and return the 3DEXPERIENCE content package to the 3DEXPERIENCE source.
In Display temporary axes upon hover over cylindrical faces lets you control whether temporary axes appear when you hover over cylindrical faces. The default is enabled.
